Girona preview: Catalan concern

In their most recent outing, Girona did put in an improved performance against Celta Vigo at Balaidos in Galicia. However, they conceded a late and controversial penalty to deny them all three points, having to settle for a 1-1 draw with Celta in Vigo.

Michel has been critical of the running of the club over the summer and their fairly bizarre transfer business. The Catalans have been regressing for the last 12 months or so and they remain rock-bottom ahead of the fifth match day.

Levante preview: Frustrated Levante

They are rock-bottom on goal difference, below both Real Mallorca and Levante. Levante gained promotion back to the top-flight last season and they have put in some good performances but have yet to get their rewards for their work.

Having been 2-0 up and lost to Barcelona last month, Levante went 2-0 up against Real Betis in Valencia last weekend, but they then had to settle for a 2-2 draw – which did, like Girona, earn them their first point of the season.

Girona team news: Nothing fresh

As Girona welcome newly-promoted Levante, there are no fresh issues for the hosts to deal with, albeit there are question marks over the availability of Thomas Lemar.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Paulo Gazzaniga; Arnau Martinez, Reis, Blind, Alex Moreno; Ivan Martin, Ounahi, Witsel; Yaser Asprilla, Vanat, Joel Roca

Unavailable: Juan Carlos (Injured), David Lopez (Injured), Ricard Artero (Injured)

Questionable: Lemar (Ineligible)

Levante team news: Matturro a doubt

Summer signing Alan Matturro remains a doubt for the visitors this weekend, having suffered a leg injury on the eve of the campaign and he is yet to make his debut for this one.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Ryan; Toljan, Unai Elgezabal, Moreno, Manu Sanchez; Carlos Alvarez, Oriol Rey, Pablo Martinez, Jon Olasagasti; Ivan Romero, Eyong

Unavailable:

Questionable: Matturro (Injured)

Girona vs Levante prediction

Girona have been able to finally put together a squad. They have a more settled side than a month ago and will benefit from the transfer window being closed. They also showed major signs of improvement last season. Levante have put in some excellent performances, especially on the counter-attack. Girona have to remain favourites with home advantage, but it should be quite a fun watch for the neutral at Montilivi.

Girona vs Levante tip: Girona to win & both teams to score
