Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard vs Novak Djokovic prediction
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard suffered a first-round loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first-round of the Geneva Open last time out. His best result of the clay court season was a quarter-final appearance at the Bordeaux Challenger, having made his return from injury at the Italian Open a week earlier. The Frenchman’s season began promisingly, with quarter-final appearances in Brisbane and Auckland, but results have dried up since then overall.
He takes on 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in round one. The 39-year-old’s playing time has been very limited since his Australian Open final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in January. Djokovic competed at Indian Wells, losing to Jack Draper in the round-of-16. He then decided to skip Miami, Monte-Carlo and Madrid due to injury, making his return at the Italian Open. However, his appearance was short-lived as he lost in three sets to Dino Prizmic.
It should be noted that Djokovic’s clay results in the Masters 1000s last year were average, and he still managed to perform well in Paris on his way to a semi-final defeat against Jannik Sinner. He will have to cope with Mpetshi Perricard’s booming first serve, but once the rallies are extended, this match shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the Serb.
