Gael Monfils is set to compete in his final Monte-Carlo Masters. The 39-year-old’s best result was a final appearance in 2016, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in a three set match. He has only competed in four tournaments so far this season. Monfils was competitive in his second-round match at Indian Wells, losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime after taking the first set.
He takes on Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutchman began his European clay court season at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakesh. Despite reaching the final last year, Griekspoor suffered a defeat in the second-round to Luca Van Assche. He was returning to action following an injury sustained in Dubai, which forced him to withdraw from the event after reaching the final back in late February.
Neither player has too many matches under their belt in the lead up to this tournament, but Griekspoor will be expected to have too much for the veteran over three sets.
