Gabriel Diallo vs Marcos Giron prediction

Gabriel Diallo enjoyed the best tournament of his career so far with a run from the qualifying stage to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open. The Canadian only entered the main draw as a lucky loser after losing to Borna Coric in the second qualifying stage, but won four matches in a row, including coming from a set down to beat Grigor Dimitrov, before falling to Lorenzo Musetti in the last eight.

Marcos Giron is his opponent in the first-round here. Giron has failed to make a breakthrough in any of his four clay court events over the past month. He was heavily defeated by Jack Draper in the second-round of Monte-Carlo and lost at the same stage of the Madrid Open despite taking the first set against Matteo Berrettini. A close first-round loss to Miomir Kecmanovic at the BMW Open was sandwiched in between those two events.

Giron lost in the first-round of the Estoril Challenger last week and isn’t in particularly inspiring form in comparison to Diallo. The Canadian is ranked lower than his American opponent but he’ll be riding high after his run in Madrid and we favour him getting through in three sets.
