Freiburg preview: Dealing with Europe and Germany

Freiburg have regressed in the Bundesliga this season, which was natural but also potentially a result of them dealing with domestic and UEFA Europa League commitments, with just four victories in their 13 matches so far this season.

However, in Europe, they got themselves a much-needed victory in midweek as they recovered from a 2-1 loss to struggling Heidenheim last weekend by edging past ten-man Red Bull Salzburg by a goal to nil, courtesy of a Philipp Lienhart strike.

Borussia Dortmund preview: Impressive Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund come into this one on the back of an entertaining 3-2 defeat of Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, continuing their impressive campaign thus far.

They have suffered just one defeat in their 13 matches in the Bundesliga, having comfortably defeated Hoffenheim by two goals to nil last weekend with goals from Germany internationals Julian Brandt and Nico Schlotterbeck.

Freiburg team news: Rosenfelder out

Freiburg defender Max Rosenfelder is now sidelined due to a thigh injury for Freiburg, alongside long-term absentee Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, while Eren Dinkci is also a doubt.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Atubolu; Kubler, Ginter, Lienhart, Treu; Eggestein, Osterhage; Beste, Manzambi, Grifo; Holer

Unavailable: Rosenfelder (Injured), Kyereh (Injured)

Questionable: Dinkci (Injured)

Borussia Dortmund team news: Centre-back injuries

Chelsea loanee Aaron Anselmino has been very impressive this season but picked up an injury in midweek and he is now sidelined alongside Germany international centre-back Waldemar Anton.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Kobel; Can, Sule, Schlotterbeck; Couto, Bellingham, Nmecha, Bensebaini; Beier, Brandt; Guirassy

Unavailable: Anton (Injured), Anselmino (Injured), Sabitzer (Injured), Duranville (Injured)

Questionable:

Freiburg vs Borussia Dortmund prediction

Freiburg have regressed this season and it could well be fairly argued that that is due to fatigue. The hosts will need a lot of energy to get themselves up for facing a strong Dortmund side at the SC Stadion. Dortmund head to Freiburg seeking to maintain their strong form, and they have to be viewed as favourites at the top end of the table but they have no chance of chasing Bayern Munich down.
