Francisco Cerundolo vs Tomas Machac prediction
Francisco Cerundolo booked his place in the next round of Monte-Carlo as he beat former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first stage of the competition. Tsitsipas is a three-time winner of the event and looked on course to win the first set as he broke to go 5-3 up, but Cerundolo hit back with four straight games to go ahead. The Argentine broke twice at the start of the second to establish a 4-0 lead, only for Tsitsipas to retrieve two breaks of his own as he drew level. Cerundolo regained his level, breaking again and serving it out to win 7-5 6-4.
He now faces Tomas Machac. The Czech required three sets to beat Daniel Altmaier. Machac suffered an early loss at the Grand Prix Hassan II last week, but he recovered well after heavily losing the second set to claim a 6-4 1-6 6-3 victory.
Cerundolo has a stronger record on clay compared to Machac, and he is also in good form, having reached the quarter-finals of the Miami Open in his previous event. He will start as the favourite for this one.
