Francisco Cerundolo vs Carlos Taberner prediction

Francisco Cerundolo will aim to build on his semi-final run in Bastad when he begins his title defence in Umag.

The top seed takes on Carlos Taberner after the Spaniard defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4 7-6 in the first round. 

Cerundolo has had some disappointments at the last two majors but overall his form has been solid with deep runs in several tournaments, particularly on clay where he boasts 21 tour-level wins this year - second only to Carlos Alcaraz.

This will be a first meeting between the pair with Cerundolo’s plus-one forehand undoubtedly the key shot here. If it fires, as is so often the case, then Tabernier will have little say in the outcome.
