THE PREDICTION

This fixture is a classic case of ‘irresistible force against immovable object’ and is the first meeting between the two clubs since Atletico prevailed over two legs in the 2019-20 round of 16. The Spanish side have been typically dogged at the back this season but they will need to be at their best in order to thwart the visitors here, especially Mohamed Salah who has been looking as sharp as he has ever been recently. The hosts are aided by the fact that their planned La Liga fixture over the weekend was postponed to allow them to prepare for this fixture, and that added freshness over a Liverpool side who were in action on Saturday is certainly a marginal advantage. It’s difficult to oppose Liverpool on current form, but there is value to be had in backing the draw here, while under 2.5 goals is always a tempting market when Atletico are involved.
