THE LOWDOWN

COPENHAGEN

Copenhagen have performed extremely well to make it to the knockouts, finishing ahead of both Man Utd and Galatasaray in Group A, and they will need to rely on their strong home form in Europe in order to have any chance of progressing against the reigning champions.

The Danish side have not been in competitive action for two months, however, due to the Superliga’s winter break, so there is concern that they will be lacking match sharpness against Pep Guardiola’s men.

MAN CITY

It was a perfect six wins from six for Man City in the group stage as they began their defence of the Champions League title they won last season, and they are fully expected to come through this two-legged tie against one of the perceived weaker teams in the round of 16.

As has been typical for Man City in recent seasons, they have really started to hit their stride since the turn of the year, with their FIFA Club World Cup triumph in late December kick-starting a run of ten consecutive wins in all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

COPENHAGEN

Lukas Lerager, who was dismissed against Galatasaray in the final group game, misses out through suspension here – a significant blow given that he has logged three goals and an assist in Europe already this season.

Theo Sander, Davit Khocholava, Nicolai Boilesen and Birger Meling are all absent through injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Grabara; Ankersen, McKenna, Diks, Jelert; Mattsson, Falk, Diogo Gonçalves; Elyounoussi, Claesson, Achouri

UNAVAILABLE: Lerager (Suspended), Sander (Injured), Khocholava (Injured), Boilesen (Injured), Meling (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

MAN CITY

Pep Guardiola is in the rather fortunate position of boasting a fully-fit squad right now, so he has plenty of options at this disposal for this first leg.

Kevin De Bruyne is primed to start after he was benched against Everton on Saturday, while in-form Phil Foden should keep his place in the side.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri; Foden, De Bruyne, Alvarez, Doku; Haaland

THE PREDICTION

Copenhagen can be proud of their efforts in reaching the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2010-11 season, but it would take a monumental effort for them to eliminate the reigning champions over two legs. Man City are really starting to motor now, and with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland now back from injury, the Premier League outfit will take some stopping. Haaland in particular has the eye for goal again after his brace against Everton in domestic action over the weekend, and the Norwegian is worth backing in the anytime goalscorer market.

TIP: ERLING HAALAND TO SCORE ANYTIME
