THE LOWDOWN
VILLARREAL
It has been a bit of a nightmare-ish campaign for Villarreal this season, having already moved on from Quique Setien to Pacheta and now Marcelino, who was appointed during the November international break. The Yellow Submarine are currently on a four-match unbeaten run of form in La Liga but three of those games have been fairly frustrating draws.
They have, though, been entertaining to watch so far this season with their 24 games in La Liga consisting of a combined total of 80 goals. Only the top five teams in the league have scored more often than them, whilst only the bottom two teams in the league, Granada and Almeria, have conceded more so far this season.
GETAFE
In his second stint in charge of the club, Jose Bordalas is once again hoping to create a Getafe side that can finish in the top seven of La Liga and the European spots. They begin the 25th match day of the 2023/24 La Liga campaign sitting just four points behind Real Sociedad in seventh, occupying the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying spot.
Quite unusually for a Bordalas-coached team, Getafe have actually scored a fair few goals so far this season, notching 32 times in 24 matches – only the top five teams in the league have scored more often. They come into this one on the back of a 3-2 victory over Celta Vigo which involved Jaime Mata scoring an 89th minute winning goal.

THE PREDICTION
The roles have been reversed for this season after a couple of years of the opposite with Getafe now launching a bid for European football, whilst Villarreal look over their shoulder. Villarreal have steadied the ship but performances remain lacklustre. The hosts will, though, be seeking to at least get after their opponent. That will, unusually, be music to Jose Bordalas’ ears with his Getafe side finding it a lot easier than expected to exploit space this season. Both teams scoring would appear a decent bet for this one.
