So far this season, Real Madrid have played 30 matches across all competitions and they have suffered just two defeats – both of those defeats have come against their city rivals, Atletico. They were beaten by Los Rojiblancos at the Metropolitano in the league in September and then again in the cup last month.
However, despite those losses, Los Blancos have already won silverware this season with the Supercopa de Espana in Saudi Arabia, where they did defeat Atletico in the semi-final, and they moved to the top-of-the-table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures with an impressive and composed 2-0 defeat of Getafe at the Coliseum in midweek.
ATLETICO MADRID
With an improved style of football, Atletico Madrid are the favourites for the Copa del Rey after knocking out Real Madrid in the Round of 16 and they have found some much-needed consistency in terms of results as they look to cement their place in the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualification spots in La Liga.
The visitors to the Bernabeu come into this one on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 defeat of Rayo Vallecano in their most recent outing, last weekend. Atletico have now enjoyed three successive La Liga victories and that is a five-match winning streak in all competitions with just two losses in their last ten games.

It is the derby of Madrid and it could be crucial in this season’s title race. Madrid, though, have been exceptionally competent this year, easing themselves into first without really needing to go through the gears and a home win would remain the likeliest outcome for this one.
