THE LOWDOWN

GIRONA

Prior to the international break, Michel had to question the hunger of his players to suggest they must be aware and know that they still have something historic to play for before the end of the season, even though the chances of winning the title have dwindled, they could and should still ensure a top four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.

The Catalans went into the aforementioned break on the back of a 1-0 loss to Getafe meaning they have now suffered four defeats in their last six La Liga matches. They have been arguably the story of the season in the whole of European football, despite being a part of the City Football Group, with their 29 matches consisting of 93 goals so far this season.

REAL BETIS

Former Malaga, Real Madrid, Manchester City and West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini is under a little bit of pressure down in Andalusia with Real Betis heading into the March international break on the back of some really poor form. They are in danger of slipping out of the top seven and the European spots in La Liga.

Their most recent outing was a 2-0 loss to a struggling Rayo Vallecano side up in the capital city at Vallecas and that was their third successive defeat in the league. Betis also suffered a shock two-legged loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the knockout playoffs of the UEFA Europa Conference League last month, too, and that means they have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions.

THE PREDICTION

With a couple of weeks to realign their hopes and expectations for the remainder of this season, Girona should come back from the break with a renewed sense of achieving something special – which finishing in the top four and should be motivation enough. They face a weak Real Betis side that have been in terrible form so that, as well as their home advantage, means they are the team to back on Sunday afternoon.

TIP: GIRONA TO WIN
