THE LOWDOWN
GIRONA
Following promotion to the top-flight in 2022, Girona enjoyed a very impressive return to life in La Liga. They were in the hunt for a top seven finish and European qualification until the final day of the season but eventually missed out on the final day of the campaign. Their style of football, under the management of Michel, was also very fun to watch with only the top five teams scoring more than them only the bottom four conceding more often.
The Catalans have had to deal with the losses of two key men this summer, though. Oriol Romeu has departed for their regional rivals Barcelona whilst striker Valentin Castellanos, who was on loan from New York City FC, has joined Lazio on a permanent deal. They began the campaign, though, with a more than respectable point away to Real Sociedad, sharing a 1-1 draw with La Real.
GETAFE
Throughout last season, it appeared certain that Getafe would get relegated under former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores. During the March international break, though, the Madrid-based club replaced him with former manager Jose Bordalas, who had previously taken them deep into the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League.
Bordalas eventually managed to assure Getafe’s safety and they started this season off in the most Getafe under Bordalas way possible with a goalless draw at home to Barcelona, 26 minutes of added time and a national debate suggesting the way they play their football should be outlawed or quashed.
THE TEAM NEWS
GIRONA
Michel, like a lot of the more progressive modern day coaches, has switched to a 4-1-4-1 system at the start of this season. Without Oriol Romeu at the base, it may not as effective but should still be easy on the eye. One changed expected for Girona would be new signing Artem Dovbyk, who scored on his debut against Real Sociedad last weekend, coming in ahead of Cristhian Stuani up-front.

THE PREDICTION
The issue with Girona’s front foot and proactive style of football is that it will allow gaps, even for sides that are as stifled in attack as Getafe. Getafe and Bordalas are the ultra pragmatists; as a result of that they will know that going to Catalonia this weekend, they have an excellent opportunity of scoring and even getting away with a win. If they can stifle Girona’s usually good attack with some of their aggressive tactics and then pinch a goal on the counter then not many will be surprised so a double chance bet in their favour probably provides good value.
