After a really slow start to the campaign in which results didn’t perhaps match their performances, Celta Vigo opted to stick with former Real Madrid and Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez in the dugout as the Galicians battle against finishing in the bottom three and the relegation places. Their performances have begun to match up with results, though, as they pull away.
Celta come into this one on the back of a really gutting defeat in the capital city, though, losing 3-2 away to Getafe with Getafe’s winning goal coming in the 89th minute via Jaime Mata. That means they have suffered three defeats in their last four matches and they have won just four games in 24 so far this season.
BARCELONA
Last month, Xavi announced that he would be departing Barcelona at the end of the season following a 5-3 defeat at home to Villarreal which simply extended a few months’ worth of genuinely poor performances that were perhaps masked by winning the league title last season as a result of their main rivals faltering on far too many occasions.
The Blaugrana come into this one on the back of yet another poor performance, sharing a 3-3 draw with strugglers and relegation-bound Granada last weekend. That means they have already conceded 23 goals in 2024 – which is remarkable for a team that only let in 20 goals in 38 league games last season en route to winning the Spanish title.

Rafa Benitez is a naturally pragmatic and defensive, reactive coach that has been able to bring about the best performances of Celta Vigo this season playing with a centre-back, former Barcelona player Oscar Mingueza, on the right-wing in a 3-4-3. Barcelona won the league title last season with an extremely tight defence and, whilst that is no longer the case, they are still expected to be drawn into a frustrating watch for the neutral in Galicia on Saturday evening.
