Gaizka Garitano took charge of Almeria during the autumn and performances have been much-improved but the Andalusians are still winless down at the bottom-of-the-table in La Liga. They have just six points and could break the record tally for lowest points but have been very unfortunate in their recent matches.
They led by two goals to nil at the Bernabeu last weekend before losing 3-2 with a winning goal from Dani Carvajal in second-half stoppage-time. That followed on from sharing a goalless draw with league leaders, Girona. They have also performed well against the likes of Barcelona and Real Betis in the last month or so.
ALAVES
Luis Garcia Plaza has come under pressure recently in charge of Deportivo Alaves but the Basque club have been much-improved of late as they try and push themselves into the middle-of-the-table. They begin this match day sitting eight points clear of Cadiz, who are 18th in the bottom three and the relegation places.
The visitors come into this one on the back off a 1-0 defeat of the aforementioned Cadiz at Mendizorrotza in their most recent outing, last weekend. That means they have collected seven points from their last three matches but they have been knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Athletic Club during that run of form.

Now, it appears that there is a good chance Almeria become statistically the worst team in La Liga history. That is an extremely harsh tag to put on them because, frankly, they aren’t even the worst team in the league right now. They come up against an Alaves side that are in reasonable form but have shown categorically this season they cannot be trusted to be consistent. Backing a winless team would appear risky but Almeria, especially with home advantage, represent good value on Friday evening.
