THE PREDICTION
Two sides who finished in mid-table last year kick off the Russian Premier League season with both having designs on pushing for a European spot this time around. Dinamo Moscow in particular tailed off at the end of the previous campaign which saw them slip down the table somewhat and end up as the lowest ranked side from the capital. They have sought to bolster their defence in the lead-up to the season with left-back Diego Laxalt signing from AC Milan and Fabian Balbuena joining on a free transfer from West Ham and that will add some vital experience to the squad. Rostov’s marquee signing, meanwhile, is that of striker Ali Sowe from CSKA Sofia and it will be interesting to see how he quickly beds into the squad. Ultimately, opening games in any season are often cagey affairs as teams find their feet and it would not be surprising to see this one end in a draw.
