Vitoria Guimaraes come into this on the back of an opening day 1-0 win away at newly-promoted Estrela Amadora. It was a hard-fought victory against what appear to be significant underdogs and Miguel Lopes’ 20th minute red card for Estrela proved to be decisive with Vitoria scoring the winning goal via Joao Silva less than five minutes after Lopes left the field mid-way through the first-half.
Despite the unconvincing nature of the victory, it will be a welcome win for Moreno’s side after their humiliating exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League, for a second successive season at the third qualifying round stage, whereby they were beaten on penalties by Slovenian side Celje. The aim for the Guimaraes club will be to push back into the top six once again but supporter frustration continues to grow.

Gil Vicente, under the management of former Chaves boss Vitor Campelos, began the season with an impressive and dominant 5-0 demolition of Portimonense last weekend on the opening day of the campaign. Campelos was very impressive with Chaves as he guided them to a mid-table finish and nearly a European spot in their first season back in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, following promotion in 2022.
That 5-0 thumping was dominant from start to finish as Kanya Fujimoto opened the scoring after just nine minutes and the final goal of the rout came deep into second-half stoppage-time, scored by Gabriel Pereira. Much like how top six is the aim for Vitoria, Gil Vicente will be thinking the same after they finished fifth in the 2021/22 campaign.
