Marco Silva Signs New Fulham Deal

Premier League side, Fulham, have announced that their manager, Marco Silva, has signed a new contract with the west London club.

The 46-year-old has signed a deal that will see him contracted to The Cottagers until the end of the 2025/26 season, after being appointed in 2021.

His first season in charge of Fulham saw them romp to the Championship title in the 2021/22 second-tier season. They collected 90 points and scored 106 goals en route to winning the league.

In his first season back as a Premier League manager, Fulham achieved a top-half finish last season, as well as a run to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Over the summer, they had to deal with rumours about Silva’s future as well as key playmaker Willian, whilst star striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored 111 goals in 206 appearances for the club over the course of five-and-a-half seasons, left for Saudi Pro League side, Al-Hilal.

There are a few concerns about Fulham’s continued Premier League status after this season after their 2-0 loss to league leaders Tottenham on Monday left them in the bottom-half with just three victories in nine matches so far this season.

Silva began his managerial career in 2011 with Estoril. After three seasons with the Portuguese side, where he finished his 15-year playing career in the same year as taking over, he moved on to Sporting CP.

After a season with the Lisbon giants, he moved to Greek Super League side Olympiacos and won the Greek title in 2016. He was then appointed at Hull City in January 2017 and, despite relegation, was rewarded with the job at Watford that summer, where he was sacked in January 2018 due to communications he had with Everton.

He then joined Everton that summer before being sacked by The Toffees in the early stages of the 2019/20 campaign with the club sitting firmly in the bottom-half of the table.
