Torino finished firmly in the middle-of-the-table in the 2023/24 Serie A campaign, eventually fading towards the end of the season. Former Hellas Verona manager, Ivan Juric, was in charge of the Turin-based club but they would view their season as a campaign of underperformance with a real struggle and lack of goals or cutting edge.
They have started this season by collecting just a point from their opening two matches of the season. Their struggle for goals was shown by their opening day goalless draw with newly-promoted Cagliari before they were then annihilated by four goals to one at San Siro against a very strong looking AC Milan side.
GENOA
Alberto Gilardino took charge of Genoa mid-way through last season and he led them to automatic promotion by winning Serie B. They will expect to no longer have to pull off an immediate promotion as they will see themselves as too big a club to be involved in another relegation battle. They have pulled off some impressive signings over the summer, such as Mateo Retegui.
The visitors began the 2023/24 campaign with an entertaining 4-3 defeat of Modena in the first round of the Coppa Italia. After that they were annihilated by Fiorentina by four goals to one but then went to the Stadio Olimpico and pulled off a surprise 1-0 win away to Lazio with the aforementioned Retegui scoring the winning goal.

THE PREDICTION
Despite playing what would generally be described as a front foot style of football, Torino finished last season managing to score just 42 goals in 38 matches. The Turin club have once again struggled for goals at the start of the season and if they become a soft touch like they were at San Siro last weekend then they could be in trouble. Forget the fact that Genoa have only just earned promotion, Alberto Gilardino has the core of a side that should well be challenging towards the top-half of the table and getting on their side for this one seems good value.
