Salernitana narrowly escaped relegation in their first season in Serie A in 2021 after ownership issues had meant they were nearly administratively demoted half-way through that campaign. They have tried to progress on from the man who led that great escape, Davide Nicola, with former Portugal manager Paulo Sousa for this season.
Paulo Sousa’s reign has started badly, though, and they have begun the 2023/24 Serie A season without a win in their opening six matches. They have collected three points in those six games and come into this on the back of a slender 1-0 loss away to Empoli in their most recent outing, during the midweek.
INTER MILAN
After reaching the UEFA Champions League final last season and winning the Coppa Italia, Internazionale will be expected to challenge and reclaim the Serie A title this season, under the management of Simone Inzaghi. They had a relatively quiet summer transfer window with few arrivals at San Siro for the Nerazzurri.
Inter were extremely impressive in their opening five matches of the campaign, which included a 5-1 demolition of AC Milan in the first Derby della Madonnina of the season after the September international break. Since that result they have shared a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad before squeezing past Empoli and then suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Sassuolo in midweek.
