THE LOWDOWN

ROMA

In late January, Roma decided to part company with Jose Mourinho with the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss, once again, underperforming in his third season in charge of a club. The Giallorossi were in mid-table and appearing very unlikely to even challenge for the top four but the surprise appointment of club legend Daniele De Rossi on a short-term deal is working at the moment.

The Romans come into this one on the back of an impressive 4-0 demolition of Cagliari in their most recent outing, last weekend, with a goal from Lorenzo Pellegrini, brace from Paulo Dybala and then another by Dean Huijsen. That has made it three victories in three matches since the arrival of De Rossi, who had only ever really failed in charge of SPAL in his managerial career.

INTER MILAN

Internazionale begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting four points clear at the top of the table of Juventus with a game in hand after they managed to defeat The Old Lady in the Derby d’Italia by a goal to nil at San Siro, winning that game with a 37th minute winning own goal scored by Juve defender, Federico Gatti.

Inter have now enjoyed three vital one nil victories after defeating Napoli in the final of the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia by that scoreline before then defeating Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi in between those victories. They have been magnificent so far this season with just one defeat in 22 matches, scoring 51 goals and conceding just ten.

THE TEAM NEWS

Chris Smalling could be on the verge if returning from his hamstring injury but Roma remain without Tammy Abraham and Evan Ndicka, too, for this weekend.

INTER MILAN

THE PREDICTION

This is a clash of two of Italy’s most storied clubs and both of them come into this one on the back of good form. Roma have been excellent and revitalised since the appointment of Daniele De Rossi, switching from a back three system to a more attacking 4-3-3. Given that intent to be more proactive, this one has the potential to be quite an entertaining encounter on Saturday afternoon with Inter among the highest scoring teams in Europe. Inter are favourites for a game where both teams scoring would also seem likely.

TIP: INTER TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
