THE LOWDOWN

MONZA

Monza, who gained promotion to Italy’s top-flight for the first time ever in 2022, are a fiercely ambitious club and are aiming for a top seven finish with potential UEFA Europa Conference League qualification an aim. They begin this weekend’s match day sitting in the middle-of-the-table on the back of a run of underwhelming form in the last couple of months.

Monza’s most recent outing, a 3-0 hammering at the hands of struggling Empoli, followed on from a 5-1 defeat at home to title challenging Internazionale. They have managed just one victory jn their last six matches in Italy’s top-flight as they struggle for any inconsistency at all with only 20 goals scored in their 21 games.

SASSUOLO

Alessio Dionisi has been generally underwhelming in charge of Sassuolo but the former Empoli manager does indeed remain in charge of Sassuolo. They have managed five victories with four draws and 11 defeats in their 20 matches in the 2023/24 Serie A campaign so far as they battle against finishing in the bottom three and the relegation places.

They are currently just a couple of points outside of the bottom three after suffering a third defeat in their last four matches ten days ago with a defeat in Turin. They were hammered 3-0 by title challenging Juventus and have managed just one win in their last eight matches across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

QUESTIONABLE:

SASSUOLO

Former West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang is unavailable for this weekend, whilst full-back Jeremy Toljan is also a doubt as they face Monza.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Pedersen, Erlic, Ferrari, Viti; Boloca, Matheus Henrique; Berardi, Thorstvedt, Lauriente; Pinamonti

UNAVAILABLE: Obiang (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Toljan (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Monza should really be getting after their inconsistent opposition who appear to be a lot more suited to playing better sides in the league. For example, the visitors have beaten three of the top four this season but will have no confidence as they go to Monza. A lacklustre is to be expected with not much fun for the neutral.
