THE LOWDOWN

JUVENTUS

Under the management of Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus moved to the top-of-the-table last week ahead of this match day. They took advantage of Internazionale being away in Saudi Arabia at the Coppa Italia with The Old Lady hammering Lecce by three goals to nil with a brace from Dusan Vlahovic supported by a goal from defender, Bremer.

The Turin-based club have now enjoyed seven successive victories across all competitions and they are unbeaten in their last 18 matches. However, their latest recent run in 2024 has been magnificent and a lot more attacking than what they had been doing. For example, they have scored 18 goals in their last five matches.

EMPOLI

It has been a fairly miserable campaign for Empoli so far this season as they begin the 22nd match day of the 2023/24 Serie A season sitting firmly in the bottom three and the relegation places but only two points adrift of safety. Aurelio Andreazzoli has improved things since he returned to the club to replace Paolo Zanetti in early autumn.

The Florence-based club have struggled for goals throughout this campaign. They actually scored three against Monza last weekend with a hat-trick from Szymon Zurkowski in that victory but that means they have notched 14 times in 21 matches so far this season – which is still comfortably the lowest scoring tally in Italy’s top-flight.

THE TEAM NEWS

JUVENTUS

Federico Chiesa is a doubt for this weekend’s clash with Empoli, whilst Adrien Rabiot and Moise Kean are both among those sidelined through injury.

QUESTIONABLE: Chiesa (Injured)

EMPOLI

There are several injury concerns for Empoli this weekend with the likes of Francesco Caputo, Mattia Destro and Giuseppe Pezzella among those who are unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Caprile; Ismajli, Walukiewicz, Luperto; Bereszynski, Zurkowski, Grassi, Marin, Gyasi; Cerri, Cambiaghi

THE PREDICTION

Usually, it would appear a bit of a daft bet to back a heavy and comfortable Juventus victory but that has been the case in recent weeks. Back-to-back 3-0 victories against Sassuolo and Lecce have followed on from hammerings of Frosinone and Salernitana in the Coppa Italia, too. They now face an Empoli side that will be surprised and content enough to have just about stayed in touch with the rest of the league. They have managed just 14 goals this season so a comfortable Juve win to nil would appear quite likely.

TIP: JUVENTUS TO WIN TO NIL
