Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus finished seventh last season after having an initial points deduction, that deduction being overturned and then having it reinstated. They were then kicked out of the UEFA Europa Conference League as a result of the financial misdemeanours that saw them punished with their points deduction.
This season, though, as they try and act more sensibly and a bit quietly, they are looking quite strong as they seek to rebuild and challenge, once again, for the Serie A title. They began the 2023/24 campaign with a very impressive 3-0 demolition of Udinese, in which they were winning comfortably at half-time in Friuli.
BOLOGNA
Last season was an emotional and bizarre campaign for Bologna. Starting off with the now late Sinisa Mihaijlovic and then transitioning into the more front foot and progressive tactical style of Thiago Motta may have proved to be a difficult one on paper but the former AC Milan and PSG midfielder led his Bologna side to an excellent finish to the season as they sat in the middle-of-the-table.
They may well endure a difficult end to the window with the loss of Marko Arnautovic to Internazionale potentially being followed by the departures of both Riccardo Orsolini and Nico Dominguez but the Emilia-Romagna club did begin with a 2-0 win over Cesena in the first round of the Coppa Italia before being beaten 2-0 by likely title challengers AC Milan at the Renato Dall’Ara last week.

THE PREDICTION
Last season, despite nominally finishing seventh, Juventus were one of the strongest sides in Serie A after a terrible start to the campaign. The Old Lady are likely to just sweep mid-table opposition and Bologna very much do fall into that category. Bologna are dealing with irritating transfer speculation and also trying to cope with a difficult start to the season in terms of fixtures so they will come good but a trip to the J Stadium after just facing AC Milan just feels a bit harsh for now. This should be a comfortable home win.
