THE LOWDOWN
INTER MILAN
Internazionale relinquished their grip on the Italian title to city rivals AC Milan in 2022 and then they finished fourth in the table behind Milan, Lazio and Napoli in 2023. They won the Coppa Italia, defeating Fiorentina in the final, and were beaten by Manchester City in Istanbul in the UEFA Champions League final but now is the time to see if Simone Inzaghi can do it in the league with the Nerazzurri.
Inter have begun the 2023/24 Serie A campaign with back-to-back 2-0 victories in comfortable fashion against Monza and then away to newly-promoted Cagliari in Sardinia. On the opening day of the season, Argentina FIFA World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez notched a brace before scoring again, alongside Denzel Dumfries against Cagliari.
FIORENTINA
I Viola reached the UEFA Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia finals last season, losing both, but showing major signs of progress as a club with a push towards the top four likely this time around. The impressive management of Vincenzo Italiano has been matched by an impressive summer transfer window and they will be aiming high this season.
In dramatic fashion, Fiorentina reached the group stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Last year’s runners’ up of this competition came from behind on aggregate and won the game with a 90th minute winner via Nicolas Gonzales. They were hammered 4-1 on the opening day by Genoa before sharing a 2-2 draw at home to Lecce.

THE PREDICTION
Simone Inzaghi’s Internazionale expect to challenge towards the top end of Serie A this season and reclaim their Italian title. Inter have started in a controlled and effective manner, only strengthened this week by the late summer signing of Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich. They now face a Fiorentina side that are expected to be a little tired for this one after their tough and long contest against Rapid Vienna the other day. Inter are firm favourites for this one, especially at San Siro.
TIP: INTER MILAN TO WIN
