Following promotion to Serie A last season, Genoa embarked upon a busy and ambitious summer transfer window which saw the arrivals of the likes of Ruslan Malinovskiy and Mateo Retegui. However, it has been a generally underwhelming campaign so far, albeit they are comfortably in the middle-of-the-table with no immediate concerns of being dragged down towards the bottom three and the relegation places.
2006 Italian FIFA World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino remains in charge of the club, despite the fact that they would still view the avoidance of relegation as a success. They do come into this one on the back of an improved run of form with their 2-1 defeat of Salernitana last weekend extending their unbeaten run of form to six matches in Serie A.
LECCE
Lecce headed into the 2023/24 Serie A campaign with a bit of optimism after a fun season last year. However, their manager Marco Baroni departed the club for Hellas Verona and his replacement, Roberto D’Aversa hasn’t quite lived up to the notion that he is a disciple of Brighton and Hove Albion manager, Roberto De Zerbi.
The visitors do begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the bottom-half of the table and only three points above the bottom three and the relegation places. They come into this one on the back of a continuation of their poor form last weekend. They were beaten 3-0 by Juventus and are now winless in their last five matches, collecting just one point in that time.
