THE LOWDOWN

CAGLIARI

After gaining promotion via the Serie B playoffs last season, the expectation was that Cagliari would struggle this season but the Sardinians are heading into the final few months of the campaign right in the thick of it and with a genuine chance of avoiding the drop with the management of former Leicester City and Chelsea boss, Claudio Ranieri.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 1-0 win over in-form Empoli in Florence last weekend with a 69th minute winning goal from Czech Republic international, Jakub Jankto. That victory came on the back of back-to-back 1-1 victories against Udinese and Napoli as they stay in touch in an extremely competitive relegation battle down at the bottom end of Serie A.

SALERNITANA

Like a few teams across Europe, such as Almeria and Sheffield United in Spain and England respectively, Salernitana have fallen into the category of simply waiting for their relegation to be confirmed with no hopes of survival. Onto their third manager of the campaign, after the sackings of Paulo Sousa and Filippo Inzaghi, Salernitana begin this weekend sitting nine points adrift of safety.

Now under the management of Fabio Liverani, Salernitana earned a valiant point up in Friuli in the north-east of Italy against Udinese. They took a tenth minute lead via Jordan Tchatchoua but that was cancelled out by Hassane Kamara and then Salernitana couldn’t take advantage of Udinese going down to ten men mid-way through the second-half.

THE TEAM NEWS

CAGLIARI

Cagliari have several injury issues as Marco Mancosu, Marko Rog and Leonardo Pavoletti are all out injured, whilst Pantelis Hatzidiakos is a doubt, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-1-1): Scuffet; Nandez, Mina, Dossena, Augello; Jankto, Makoumbou, Deiola, Luvumbo; Gaetano; Lapadula

UNAVAILABLE: Pavoletti (Injured), Mancosu (Injured), Rog (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Hatzidiakos (Injured)

SALERNITANA

Bottom-of-the-table Salernitana remain without defensive duo Lorenzo Pirola and Norbert Gyomber, whilst Jerome Boateng is also a doubt for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-2-1-2): Ochoa; Zanoli, Manolas, Pellegrino, Bradaric; Maggiore; Coulibaly, Basic; Candreva; Tchaouna, Weissman

UNAVAILABLE: Pirola (Injured), Gyomber (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Boateng (Injured), Pierozzi (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Cagliari earned themselves a valuable three points against Empoli last weekend and Ranieri will be targeting another boost of form similar to what they enjoyed a few months ago after not winning in their opening 11 matches of the campaign. They are now hosting a Salernitana side and club that have become a bit of a mess both on and off the pitch and Cagliari are the firm favourites for this one, especially with their home advantage.

TIP: CAGLIARI TO WIN
