THE LOWDOWN
AC MILAN
Stefano Pioli is under a little bit of pressure as AC Milan seek to avenge the relinquishment of the Serie A title last season and will be confident of exploiting a seemingly vulnerable Napoli side. This is even more likely after an impressive summer transfer window by the Rossoneri, re-investing the money brought in by the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United.
Milan began with three successive victories before a humiliating 5-1 demolition at the hands of Internazionale in the Derby della Madonnina after the September international break. Easing into a recovery with back-to-back clean sheets against Newcastle and Verona, they come into this on the back of a comfortable 3-1 win in Sardinia against Cagliari, who are struggling following promotion.
LAZIO
It has been a bizarre season so far for Lazio. After finishing as runners’ up in Serie A last year, the capital city club had a problematic summer with Maurizio Sarri regularly complaining about the transfer window; a transfer window in which they sold key midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
They began by suffering back-to-back defeats to Lecce and newly-promoted Genoa before a shock win at reigning champions Napoli. Poor performances against Juventus and Atletico Madrid followed, albeit they were saved against Atletico with a 95th minute equaliser from their goalkeeper. Another poor result, a 1-1 draw with Monza, was backed up by a 2-0 defeat of a poor Torino side.
THE TEAM NEWS

Unlike his counterpart, Pioli is dealing with several injury issues. Ismael Bennacer is a long-term absentee but he is joined on the sidelines by the likes of Mike Maignan and Rade Krunic.

LAZIO
Despite his general issues with the squad, Maurizio Sarri will be able to select from a fully fit and available group of players for this weekend’s encounter against Milan.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Casale, Romagnoli, Marusic; Vecino, Rovella, Alberto; Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni

THE PREDICTION
Both of these sides have UEFA Champions League group stage matches to distract them in midweek and both teams lost key central midfielders in the summer. However, only Lazio have the real benefit of being able to rotate this weekend due to AC Milan’s plethora of injuries. Despite that benefit for the hosts, they have struggled this season quite badly and now face a Milan side that have been generally excellent, barring one humiliating aberration against Inter. An away win is the expected outcome of this one.
TIP: AC MILAN TO WIN
