THE TEAM NEWS

BEITAR JERUSALEM

  • Beitar Jerusalem enter the Championship round in third place in the table and that already represents a massive improvement on last season when they finished the regular season in 11th place.
  • They resume their campaign against Hapoel Be’er Sheva whom they last faced in December when they came out narrow 0-1 winners in an ill-tempered match which saw both teams reduced to ten men.
  • Although they do not possess a standout goalscorer, they have still managed to outscore every team aside from the top two in the league with plenty of players contributing to their goal tally.

HAPOEL BE’ER SHEVA

  • Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s last league outing prior to the enforced break was a 4-0 defeat at the hands of leaders Maccabi Haifa which was their joint worst defeat since January 2013 but they exacted revenge just one week later with 1-2 victory in the cup.
  • Generally their league form was positive in the early months of the year though, with that loss to Maccabi Haifa their first defeat in eight league games so they should be in reasonably confident mood ahead of this resumption.
  • Their chief goal threat is undoubtedly Ben Sahar who has registered 12 league goals so far this season with the Israeli international in particularly prolific prior to the break having notched four times in his last four league appearances.

THE PREDICTION

There is very little to separate these teams in the table so one would expect a fairly even contest between two of the stronger sides in the league. The enforced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic of course makes matters more difficult to predict than usual but if Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s Ben Sahar can continue where he left off then he could well be the difference maker in this one. Beitar Jerusalem came away with the spoils in their last meeting but the away side will be out for revenge here in a potential role reversal.
