THE LOWDOWN

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

Borussia Monchengladbach fans have reason for alarm after two games, mainly due to their backline’s horrific start to the campaign. They shipped four goals vs Augsburg, although they’ll have celebrated come full-time after grabbing a point late on. Nobody was celebrating last weekend however, as they were taken apart on their own patch by Bayer Leverkusen.

Gladbach fell behind in the 18th minute and were 0-2 down before half time. It didn’t get any better for them, giving up a third goal and it could have easily been more. To allow 24 shots on their goal, 11 of them on target is a huge concern and must be addressed, otherwise their opponents here will have a field day.

BAYERN MUNICH

Bayern Munich wanted to back up their resounding 0-4 triumph away at Werder Bremen with a comprehensive home victory against Augsburg and that’s exactly what they achieved, brushing them aside by three goals to one. An own goal started things off before Harry Kane took over in his first home Bundesliga start for the German champions.

Bayern were awarded a penalty following a handball, providing Kane with the perfect opportunity to record his first Allianz Arena goal, which he took gleefully. The striking superstar added another in the second half, assisted for the second week running by left-back Alphonso Davies. The only disappointment for head coach Thomas Tuchel, was that his side failed to keep a clean sheet, conceding a consolation late on.

THE TEAM NEWS

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

Gladbach may well resort back to a 4-2-3-1 formation after last weekend’s result and match up to Bayern. That could mean Kou Itakura dropping out of the backline. Franck Honorat, Alassane Plea and Nathan Ngoumou would play as an attacking midfield three behind Tomas Cvancara. Moritz Nicolas deputises in goal for the injured Jonas Omlin.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Nicolas; Friedrich, Wober; Honorat, Scally; Weigl, Neuhaus; Honorat, Plea, Ngoumou; Cvancara

UNAVAILABLE: Kramer (Injured), Kone (Injured), Lainer (Illness), Netz (Injured), Omlin (Injured), Wolf (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

BAYERN MUNICH

Thomas Tuchel confirmed that whilst defender Kim Min-jae had been suffering from cramp late on last Sunday and was withdrawn as a result, he was confident the centre-back would be fit to go again in this game. Guerreiro is back on the grass but unlikely to be ready in time to feature here, whilst Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala remain out injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ulreich; Mazraoui, Kim, Upamecano, Davies; Goretzka, Kimmich; Sane, Gnabry, Coman; Kane

UNAVAILABLE: Neuer (Injured), Musiala (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Guerreiro (Injured), Kim (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Bayern Munich are certainly not the opponents you want to be facing if you are Borussia Monchengladbach with their current defensive deficiencies. Confidence is clearly low within the Gladbach backline and to cap it off, the hosts will be without their first-choice goalkeeper. This represents a huge opportunity for Bayern Munich to banish previous demons when it comes to playing Borussia-Park. With a new striker in fine form and momentum in their favour, expect the ‘Rekordmeister’ to make it nine points from nine after three Bundesliga rounds.

TIP: BAYERN MUNICH TO WIN
