THE LOWDOWN
BORUSSIA DORTMUND
The absence of key attacking assets such as Jadon Sancho and Karim Adeyemi was certainly felt by Borussia Dortmund last Friday night as they were held to a 0-0 draw away at Heidenheim. The newly promoted Bundesliga side have recorded consecutive draws against the giants of Dortmund this season and those four points dropped are just an example as to why the hosts are simply not challenging Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga.
Sancho will be hoping to recover in time to feature here and his presence would serve as a welcome boost for Borussia Dortmund, who to their credit have performed extremely well since the turn of the year, picking up ten points from a possible 12 despite that slip-up last week. Their only home match so far, ended in a 3-1 victory over Bochum.
FREIBURG
Consecutive Bundesliga defeats for Freiburg have seen them lose further ground on the current top six and those all-important European places. Both losses were by a scoreline of three goals to one, the most recent of those a 1-3 reverse at home to Stuttgart. The visitors’ attacking verve proved too strong for Freiburg’s defence to handle and they couldn’t recover from a nightmare start which saw them two goals behind within the opening ten minutes.
Defender Matthias Ginter was taken off late on and the German international is a serious injury doubt for this one, which will lead to more doubts regarding the capabilities of this current Freiburg backline, especially when travelling to such a tough opponent. Central midfielder Merlin Rohl won’t feature due to suspension.

THE PREDICTION
After being shut out by Heidenheim, it’s imperative for Borussia Dortmund that they get back to winning ways at the first time of asking. Freiburg have shipped eight goals across their last three Bundesliga fixtures, losing twice and when taking into account the attacking options that Edin Terzic has at his disposal, there is no excuse for the hosts not to breach that fragile Freiburg backline. With home advantage in their favour, expect Borussia Dortmund to record their fourth league victory post-winter break.
TIP: BORUSSIA DORTMUND TO WIN
