THE LOWDOWN
AUGSBURG
Augsburg continue to leak goals on a regular basis, although they can hardly be blamed for conceding three last weekend away to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. The frustrating aspect will have been how the opener for Bayern came about, an unfortunate own goal by Felix Uduokhai just after the half hour mark.
From then on, Augsburg were victims of the Harry Kane show, a handball gifting Bayern a penalty which Kane dispatched, before the England captain made it 3-0 in the second-half. Augsburg to their credit never gave up and even pulled a goal back late in the piece through Dion Drena Beljo.
BOCHUM
Thomas Letsch will have been very happy with his players’ efforts in the Ruhrpott derby, which saw them take a hard-earned point from title contenders and local rivals Borussia Dortmund. Kevin Stoger gave Bochum the lead after 13 minutes and they had their chances to increase the advantage. However, they could only go in at half-time one-goal ahead.
Unsurprisingly, BVB rallied in the second half and drew the scores level just over ten minutes after the restart through Donyell Malen. Whilst Bochum will likely have been more than happy with a point before kick-off, they may well look back with regret at what could have been.

Augsburg will check on the injury status of Sven Michel ahead of this encounter, the forward is currently nursing an adductor problem. Patric Pfeiffer is suspended, whilst Framberger, Mbuku, Okugawa and Oxford are all missing.

With home advantage in their favour, Augsburg are expected to push bodies forward whenever possible and really take the game to Bochum from an attacking standpoint. The visitors’ backline isn’t the strongest, having conceded five in their last away fixture against Stuttgart. But it would be a mistake to underestimate Bochum’s own offensive qualities when considering how dangerous they looked against Dortmund and how shaky Augsburg’s defence has been. Expect them to create opportunities on the counter attack and both teams to score looks on the cards.
