Toulouse appear one of the better run clubs in Ligue 1 with smart recruitment and off-field decision-making aiding their return back to the top-flight with promotion in 2022. Since then they have secured mid-table status in Ligue 1 and also managed to defeat Nantes in the final of the Coupe de France last season, qualifying directly for this season’s UEFA Europa League group stages.
So far this season, they have collected four points from their opening three matches. They began the season by defeating the aforementioned Nantes by two goals to one before sharing a more than respectable draw with reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain. Last weekend, they were comfortably beaten, though, by Patrick Vieira’s Strasbourg.
CLERMONT
Ever since gaining promotion back to the top-flight, Clermont have managed to survive and even finish in the top-half of Ligue 1. Under the management of Pascal Gastien, they are expected to battle against the drop, once again, as it simply seems like it must be a season too far to over achieve, especially with the league being reduced from 20 to 18 teams over the summer.
They started the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season with a 4-2 loss at home to Monaco in which they did take an early lead but were comfortably beaten by a Monaco side that were by far the better team. They followed that up with a 2-0 defeat away to Stade Reims and, last weekend, were beaten 1-0 at home by newly-promoted Metz, meaning they begin the weekend’s round of fixtures as the only side in the division without a point so far.
