Under the management of Will Still, who has reportedly been targeted by both Sunderland and Crystal Palace recently, Stade de Reims are once again performing well in Ligue 1 as they try and challenge for a top five finish and potential European qualification. Reims did suffer a shock penalty shootout defeat to Ligue 2 side, Sochaux, in the Coupe de France, last weekend.
They did return from the Ligue 1 winter break with an impressive 3-1 defeat of Monaco a couple of weeks ago with goals from Teddy Teuma, Reda Khadra and Azor Matusiwa. However, Azor Matusiwa has now departed the club to Rennes a fee in the region of £15.5 million. They have enjoyed back-to-back Ligue 1 victories ahead of this one.
NANTES
Nantes begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 table after 18 matches. They have managed five victories with three draws and ten defeats in their campaign so far as they drift down the table, just a couple of points and places above the bottom three and the relegation places.
The visitors come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to lower league Stade Laval in their most recent outing in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France. Nantes have suffered four successive defeats in the league and that run of form has included a loss to previously bottom-of-the-table, Clermont.

Stade de Reims are sitting just outside of the top five and they are an ambitious club but they will be missing several midfielders. For example, Amir Richardson’s absence is now added to by the sale of Azor Matusiwa to Rennes. They now face a Nantes side that have scored just 20 goals in their 18 games and they are in genuine danger of drifting into relegation. Reims are the overwhelming favourites for this one, especially with their home advantage.
