THE LOWDOWN

REIMS

Exciting and impressive young coach Will Still is coming under a little bit of pressure in charge of Stade de Reims as they drift into the middle-of-the-table, away from their pre-season goals of earning a top six finish and European qualification. Reims come into this one on the back of another defeat, suffering a 2-0 loss at the hands of relegation batting Lorient at the weekend.

That result means they are now winless in their last five matches across all competitions, including being eliminated from the Coupe de France at the Round of 32 stage after a penalty shootout loss to Ligue 2 Sochaux. Reims have remained entertaining at least, with their 21 matches consisting of 56 goals so far this season.

LENS

Franck Haise has managed an extremely impressive turnaround this season after Lens began the campaign very slowly following the sales of some key players in the summer. They have been steady since the turn of the year and that continued in midweek as they shared a goalless draw with Freiburg in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League knockout playoff round tie in midweek.

The home team have now suffered just four losses inside 90 minutes in their last 24 matches across all competitions since they were left in the relegation zone in late September. They comfortably defeated an in-form Strasbourg by three goals to one in their most recent Ligue 1 outing, last weekend, with goals from Elye Wahi, David Costa and Florian Sotoca.

THE TEAM NEWS

REIMS

Thibault De Smet is out suspended for this weekend with the visit of Lens, whilst Maxime Busi is also missing as Will Still deals with a few selection headaches.

LENS

Lens have two injury concerns for this weekend’s trip to Reims as both Deiver Machado and Jimmy Cabot are expected to still be absent.

THE PREDICTION

Will Still is coming under mounting pressure with Stade de Reims as they drift into the middle-of-the-table. They have been generally entertaining to watch throughout this season but their lack of form recently will surely mean a lack of confidence ahead of this weekend. Given that they face a Lens side that are just trying to ease their way through this weekend with no injuries ahead of their European tie with Freiburg. As a result, a fairly forgettable and low-scoring encounter is to be expected.
