THE LOWDOWN

NICE

The summer appointment of the inexperienced Francesco Farioli was a gamble but for the first-half of the season, he had Nice looking like they may well be the ‘best of the rest’ in Ligue 1 behind defending champions and runaway league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain. However, the southerners’ lack of goals has really begun to hurt them as we head into the final few months of the campaign.

Nice come into this one on the back of a third defeat in their last four matches as they were beaten 2-1 by Toulouse last weekend at Stadium de Toulouse, despite Terem Moffi giving Nice an eighth minute lead in that match. They have now managed four wins, three draws and six defeats in their last 13 Ligue 1 matches, scoring just 23 goals in 24 games so far this season.

MONTPELLIER

Armenian coach Michel Der Zakarian is under significant pressure in charge of Montpellier Herault as they have collapsed all the way down the table in the second-half of this season with just five victories in their 24 matches so far and they come into this one on the back of yet another underwhelming result, last weekend.

They shared a 2-2 draw with a similarly underperforming and underwhelming, out of form Strasbourg side last weekend with Arnaud Nordin needing to score a brace in the second-half after they had gone 1-0 and 2-1 down. They have now managed just one victory in their last seven matches across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

Nice have several injury issues for this weekend with Valentin Rosier sidelined alongside the likes of Morgan Sanson and Sofiane Diop.

QUESTIONABLE:

MONTPELLIER

Modibo Sagnan is out suspended for Montpellier this weekend with the likes of Christopher Jullien and Becir Omeragic both missing through injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Lecomte; Tchato, Kouyate, Sainte-Luce, Sylla; Ferri, Chotard; Al-Taamari, Savanier, Nordin; Adams

THE PREDICTION

Francesco Farioli is supposedly a disciple of Roberto De Zerbi but the attacking effectiveness and efficiency of the two coaches is very different. Nice’s 24 matches so far this season have consisted of just 40 goals as they slip out of the top four ahead of this weekend. They really should get back on track with a victory at the Allianz Riviera in this one, though, as they host a struggling Montpellier side that appear destined for a long, hard battle against he drop.

TIP: NICE TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
