THE LOWDOWN

NICE

Nice appointed Francesco Farioli in the summer and that really surprising appointment has paid off for the southerners as they challenge for UEFA Champions League qualification this season, tucked inside the top three ahead of this match day. They have been built upon an extremely solid defence as they try to keep in touch with PSG at the top.

They come into this one on the back off a 4-1 hammering of Montpellier Herault in their most recent outing in midweek in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France. That high-scoring victory is out of character for Nice so far this season as they have managed to score just 20 goals in their 20 matches so far this season.

MONACO

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco come into this one on the back of a shock defeat in the Coupe de France in midweek. The principality club took the lead against third-tier side FC Rouen but were eventually pegged back and taken to a penalty shootout which they lost 6-5.

Hutter, with his impressive pressing style of football, did begin his time in charge of Monaco quite well but they have drifted a fair bit in the last couple of months and he is now coming under pressure as they sit outside of the top four in Ligue 1. They have been entertaining to watch, though, with their 20 matches producing 65 goals so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

NICE

Nice have no major availability concerns for this weekend with their only absentee being that of midfielder Sofiane Diop for the derby against Monaco.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Bulka; Ndayishimiye, Todibo, Dante; Lotomba, Bouadoui, Thuram, Bard; Laborde, Sanson; Guessand

UNAVAILABLE: Diop (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

MONACO

Monaco have pretty much a fully fit and available squad so can name an unchanged eleven this weekend, whilst Eliot Matazo is a doubt for this one.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Kohn; Magassa, Kehrer, Salisu; Vanderson, Akliouche, Fofana, Golovin, Jakobs; Ben Seghir, Ben Yedder

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Matazo (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

It is the Derby de la Cote d’Azur on Sunday evening and this season it features two teams tucked inside the top five that are competing for UEFA Champions League qualification. Nice have performed admirably this season with such a tight defence, shipping just 11 goals in 20 matches. They now face a Monaco side that, as mentioned, are genuinely generally quite entertaining but the visitors are in poor form and under pressure. The hosts will be confident they take advantage of that and suffocate their opposition so, especially with their home advantage, backing Nice looks the way to go in this one.

TIP: NICE TO WIN
