Coached by former Borussia Monchengladbach manager Adi Hutter, Monaco are still challenging for a top three finish as they return from the Ligue 1 winter break. The principality club begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in those UEFA Champions League qualifying spots but had been quite inconsistent before the stoppage.
They did head into that break on the back of a vital 2-1 defeat of a struggling Toulouse side, holding on with ten men for nearly 40 minutes after the red card of Aleksandar Golovin. They come into this one on the back of a penalty shootout victory over Lens in their most recent outing, last weekend, in the Coupe de France.
REIMS
Stade de Reims enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign but eventually faded as they headed towards the winter break with a lot of speculation surrounding their manager, Will Still, with a move to England as Sunderland were reportedly interested. They are now, though, still sitting just two points off the top five and the European spots ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.
Reims come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat of ten-man Le Havre in their most recent Ligue 1 outing just before the aforementioned winter break. They returned from the break with a comfortable 3-0 defeat of lower league Dinan Lehon last weekend with a brace from Mamadou Diakhon and a third coming from Mohamed Daramy.

This one is quite tough to call given the amount of absentees and just how affected both sides are by the CAF Africa Cup of Nations and the AFC Asian Cup. Monaco are challenging to get back into Europe this season, whilst Will Still has implemented a genuinely front foot and entertaining style as they compete for European qualification themselves. With full strength teams, this one could be quite high-scoring and entertaining and the likelihood of that only increases as space, perhaps, is more prominent in a game with players lacking full match rhythm.
