Gennaro Gattuso had a slow start to his reign in charge of Olympique de Marseille but the southerners enjoyed some much-improved form before the Ligue 1 winter break. There are several availability concerns for Marseille at the moment so they have been a little slow since the return from the break.
They went into the break on the back of a 1-1 draw with Montpellier Herault before then edging past lower league Thionville Lusitanos in the Round of 64 in the Coupe de France. Since then they have shared a draw with Strasbourg before being knocked out of the cup by Stade Rennais following a penalty shootout last weekend.
MONACO
Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco are once again challenging for a top three finish and UEFA Champions League qualification after failing to qualify for any European competition last season. The Monagasque come into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat of Rodez in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France.
That victory in the cup has followed on from suffering two defeats in their last three matches. Their most recent Ligue 1 outing saw them defeated by three goals to one by Stade de Reims at the Stade Louis II. They begin the match day sitting a point and a place outside of the top three as a result of those losses.

THE PREDICTION
A version of ‘Derby de la Mediterranee’, this one has the potential to be an absolute thriller at the Stade Velodrome. Marseille have been entertaining to watch under Gattuso and they have suffered just one defeat in their last 11 matches across all competitions. They now face a Monaco side that are one of the more proactive teams in Ligue 1 under Adi Hutter so an intriguing one for the neutral in which both teams score would appear quite likely on Saturday evening.
