Despite having to balance Ligue 1 commitments with UEFA Europa Conference League football this season, former Shakhtar Donetsk and Roma boss Paulo Fonseca is doing a sterling job in charge of Lille. The northerners begin the weekend in a very good position to potentially kick on and into the top four or three and UEFA Champions League qualifying spots.
Lille come into this one on the back of a goalless draw away to Montpellier Herault in their most recent outing, last weekend, holding on for that draw with ten men for the entirety of the second-half. Lille have now suffered just one defeat in their last 20 matches across all competitions as they fight on three fronts in the second-half of this campaign.
CLERMONT
In each season since they gained promotion to the top-flight of French football in 2019, Clermont have significantly overperformed all pre-season expectations by surviving the drop and even finishing in the top-half last season. This season, though, it appears to be one step too far as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom two.
The visitors, under the management of Pascal Gastien, come into this one on the back of a slight up-turn in form of late. Their 1-1 draw at home to Strasbourg means that they have collected four points from their last two matches, having defeated an out of form Nantes side by two goals to one after the Ligue 1 winter break.

This one appears a very one-sided affair on paper and it is expected to be the case on Sunday afternoon. Lille are one of the strongest and most difficult teams to beat or even score against in the country, whilst Clermont appear destined for a return to Ligue 2 next season. To help the odds of backing Lille, backing the hosts with a clean sheet victory would seem sensible, too, given the fact that they have kept 18 clean sheets in 29 matches so far this season.
