Last season, Lens finished as runners’ up in Ligue 1, ending up just two points behind Paris Saint-Germain. The loss of key players such as Seko Fofana and Lois Openda led to a very slow start to the campaign but the northerners have been magnificent ever since mid-to-late-September as they challenge for a top six finish, once again.
They come into this one on the back of a slender but impressive 1-0 win away to Nantes last weekend, making it back-to-back victories after they comfortably defeated Toulouse by two goals to nil, recovering from a slow return from the winter break. They have actually moved into the aforementioned top six ahead of this weekend.
STRASBOURG
There remains a lot of unrest among supporters at Strasbourg with BlueCo purchasing the club in the summer with the fairly obvious intention of making the storied and historic club nothing more than a feeder club to Chelsea. The Alsace-based outfit started the season on the pitch slowly but have picked up as they try and move towards the top six and the European spots.
Former Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira is in charge at Stade de la Meinau Strasbourg as they come into this one on the back of an impressive 3-1 defeat of Le Havre in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France in midweek. That victory means they have suffered just one loss, a slender 2-1 defeat to PSG, in their last ten matches across all competitions.
