Russell Martin’s reign in charge of Southampton did start slowly but the former Swansea City boss has overseen a relentless run of form from Saints, putting themselves very much in the race for automatic promotion. They come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Rotherham United at the New York Stadium on Saturday, extending their unbeaten run of form to 23 matches across all competitions. Watford will be pleased to have forced a replay under Valerian Ismael but The Hornets’ 1-0 loss at home to Cardiff the other day means that they have won just one of their last seven Championship matches and Southampton, especially at St Mary’s, are firm favourites.
