For a second successive campaign, Gary O’Neil has taken charge of a side that appeared destined for the drop, or at the very least a sustained relegation battle, and has come through a crisis to ensure they are quite comfortably a mid-table outfit with a tactical structure that poses a major threat to some of the bigger sides in the Premier League.

Thomas Frank had the chance to become the first manager to beat Pep Guardiola in three successive meetings but Brentford were denied victory against Manchester City via a Phil Foden hat-trick on Monday night. The Bees took a first-half lead through in-form Neal Maupay before Foden and City completed a turnaround to win the game 3-1.
It has to be said that the west Londoners have most definitely improved their performances in recent weeks, since the return of Ivan Toney from suspension. They defeated Nottingham Forest by three goals to two before leading against Tottenham and then City but will need to turn performances into results now as they remain in the battle against the drop down at the bottom end of the table.

Boubacar Traore returned to Wolverhampton after Mali's defeat to Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations last weekend, whilst Hwang Hee-chan's South Korea were eliminated at the semi-final stage of the AFC Asian Cup on Tuesday.

For the fourth time in just over a month, Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Brentford. Surprisingly, given the pragmatic nature of the two coaches, the previous three meetings have all featured both teams scoring. The likelihood of that being repeated has surely only been increased, too, with Wolves’ last two matches producing 13 goals and Brentford stumbling upon a dynamic strike partnership between Ivan Toney and Neal Maupay. In a high-scoring Premier League season, this one seems set to add to the statistics.
