THE LOWDOWN

SOUTHAMPTON

  • Southampton were last in action back on May 7th when they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Brentford and Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have dropped right down to 15th-place having gained just a point from their last four matches.
  • Goalkeeper Fraser Forster faces a late fitness test as does midfielder Stuart Armstrong, whilst Tino Livramento is out for the season after undergoing surgery.

LIVERPOOL

  • Liverpool completed a domestic cup double at the weekend, lifting the FA Cup for the first time since 2006 after beating Chelsea on penalties and here they turn their attention back to the Premier League and trying to overhaul table toppers Man City.
  • Their FA Cup victory was slightly marred by injuries to star players Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, which forced both players to be subbed off and the two may well join Fabinho on the sidelines, although Andy Robertson should be fine after suffering from heavy cramp.

THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTHAMPTON

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Forster; Bednarek, Lyanco, Salisu; Walker-Peters, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Diallo, Perraud; Adams, Broja

UNAVAILABLE: Livramento (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: S. Armstrong (Injured), Forster (Injured)

LIVERPOOL

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Matip, Robertson; Keita, Henderson, Thiago; Diaz, Firmino, Mane

UNAVAILABLE: Fabinho (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Van Dijk (Injured), Robertson (Injured), Salah (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Man City’s 2-2 draw away at West Ham has left the door ajar for Liverpool to take the race for the Premier League title to the final day with just three points at St. Mary’s Stadium bringing the Reds to within a point of Pep Guardiola’s side. Despite a gruelling FA Cup final just three days earlier, the euphoria of their penalty shoot-out triumph alongside their significant strength-in-depth should see them maintain a high level of performance even if they are without the likes of Salah and Van Dijk. It certainly feels like the Southampton players already have their eyes on their summer holidays and have done for quite a while now. Liverpool should be set to take advantage to win here by at least two clear goals.

Tip: LIVERPOOL TO WIN WITH -1 HANDICAP
