Since the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest have been much-improved and a lot more difficult to beat. Their penalty shootout victory over Championship side Bristol City in midweek means they have now suffered just two defeats in nine matches across all competitions as they battle against relegation.
There is an expectation, or at least an acknowledgement of the possibility, that Nottingham Forest could face a similar points deduction to Everton before the end of the season so there is a feeling that games as early as mid-February have become must win. A key issue for Forest throughout the season has been a lack of goals with only the bottom three and Crystal Palace having scored fewer than them.
NEWCASTLE
A top seven finish and even UEFA Europa Conference League qualification would appear distinctly unlikely for Newcastle United with Eddie Howe potentially likely to prioritise FA Cup progress to turn The Magpies’ season into something of a relatively positive one. They have won ten and lost ten of their 23 Premier League matches so far this season.
The visitors come into this one on the back of a thrilling four all draw with Luton Town in their most recent outing at St James’ Park last weekend. That means they have won just two of their last nine league games so far. Their 23 matches have consisted of a remarkable 85 goals as one of the most entertaining teams to watch.

Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Gonzalo Montiel will be unavailable for this weekend after picking up an injury after their game with Bristol City in the FA Cup in midweek.
The Argentinian 2022 FIFA World Cup winner joins Chris Wood in being sidelined by injury, whilst Ibrahim Sangare, Willy Boly and Ola Aina are out in the Ivory Coast preparing for the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

In the reverse fixture between these two sides on Boxing Day, Nottingham Forest came from behind to dismantle Newcastle United by three goals to one at St James’ Park with a hat-trick from Chris Wood. Forest, as mentioned, have remained tough to beat and breakdown but they will really need to produce more attacking end product if they are to stave off the drop. Newcastle have been inconsistent but extremely fun to watch this season and that shows no signs of changing as they head to the City Ground.
