After losing to Arsenal on penalties in the Community Shield a couple of weeks ago, Pep Guardiola's side were this time on the right end of spot-kick drama, and it is yet another trophy to add to their growing collection.
NEWCASTLE
The opening weekend of Premier League action ended with Newcastle top of the league after their emphatic 5-1 win over Aston Villa.
Summer signing Sandro Tonali took just six minutes to open his account for the Magpies, and although Moussa Diaby pulled Villa level just five minutes later, Alexander Isak swiftly restored the lead for Eddie Howe's men. Isak added another in the second half, with Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes - another new signing - adding the gloss to an excellent performance.

John Stones has suffered a setback and is set to miss out, while Ruben Dias could make the squad assuming he completes his concussion protocols. Bernardo Silva will be back soon but will not be available for selection this weekend, while Kevin De Bruyne is a long-term absentee.

This should be an extremely tough test for last season's treble winners, especially off the back of their energy-sapping European exploits midweek. Newcastle were arguably the most impressive side of the opening weekend, with new signings Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes putting in excellent displays on their respective debuts. With Man City missing some key men here in John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, there is a case to be made for the visitors earning a point at least.
