THE LOWDOWN

LUTON

Luton Town suffered a blow in midweek, albeit Rob Edwards said it wasn’t, as their rivals to beat the drop, Everton, gained four points back to their current tally after their ten-point deduction from November was reduced to just six points on appeal, leaving the Hatters four points adrift in the bottom three.

Luton come into this one on the back of a 6-2 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City at Kenilworth Road in the fifth round of the FA Cup in midweek. They were put to the sword by Erling Haaland, who notched five goals in that match. They have also suffered three successive defeats in the Premier League ahead of this one, too.

ASTON VILLA

Aston Villa, coached by former Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery, begin the 27th match day of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign sitting tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots after seemingly coming through a dodgy run of form, despite a long list of serious injury issues.

The Villains come into this one on the back of three victories in their last four Premier League matches. They comfortably defeated Nottingham Forest by four goals to two at Villa Park last weekend with goals from Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey with a brace scored by Brazilian midfielder, Douglas Luiz.

THE TEAM NEWS

LUTON

Rob Edwards has confirmed that Luton Town are missing several key players for this weekend with the likes of Jacob Brown, Mads Andersen, Marvelous Nakamba and Tom Lockyer all unavailable.

Both Elijah Adebayo and Albert Sambi Lokonga have not recovered in time for this clash with Villa, whilst Amari'i Bell is set to be assessed with Gabriel Osho and Dan Potts also missing.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Kaminski; Burke, Mengi, Bell; Kabore, Clark, Barkley, Chong, Doughty; Morris, Woodrow

UNAVAILABLE: Lockyer (Illness), Andersen (Injured), Osho (Injured), Potts (Injured), Johnson (Injured), Nakamba (Injured), Lokonga (Injured), Brown (Injured), Adebayo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Bell (Injured)

ASTON VILLA

Unai Emery, as mentioned, is dealing with plenty of injury issues in charge of Aston Villa and he will remain without the likes of Diego Carlos, Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and Emi Buendia.

Both Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa will be in the squad for the trip down to Luton but a decision on whether or not they can start will be made quite late on. Jhon Duran could be due back in training next week.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Martinez; Cash, Lenglet, Torres, Alex Moreno; McGinn, Tielemans, Douglas Luiz, Ramsey; Bailey, Watkins

UNAVAILABLE: Mings (Injured), Carlos (Injured), Kamara (Injured), Buendia (Injured), Duran (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Torres (Injured), Konsa (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Luton Town have pulled off a couple of good results at Kenilworth Road, such as their defeat of Newcastle United just before Christmas, but they have fallen short in games against the best teams in the league, despite really pushing everyone in the league at home. Aston Villa have the added distraction of a UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16 tie against Ajax in midweek but will remain favourites for what is a really tough test in Bedfordshire late on Saturday afternoon.

TIP: ASTON VILLA TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
