THE LOWDOWN

LIVERPOOL

Darwin Nunez was the hero of the hour as ten-man Liverpool pulled off a superb come-from-behind victory against Newcastle last weekend, and Jurgen Klopp's side remain unbeaten in the new campaign.

It was shaping up to me a difficult afternoon for Liverpool when Anthony Gordon's opener was quickly followed by Virgil van Dijk's red card, but the visitors showed plenty of fight to stay in the game. That provided the foundation for Nunez' late heroics to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

ASTON VILLA

Aston Villa simply outclassed Burnley last weekend to emerge from Turf Moor with a 1-3 victory, before making light work of Hibernian in the second leg of Thursday's Europa Conference league qualifier.

Wing-back Matty Cash has made a strong start to the season with the Polish international having scored three goals in the last week, two of those coming against Burnley. Lyle Foster pulled one back for the Clarets, but Moussa Diaby responded with his second for the club to secure the three points.

THE TEAM NEWS

LIVERPOOL

With Virgil van Dijk suspended and Ibrahima Konate still nursing an injury, Joe Gomez is expected to partner Joel Matip in defence. In midfield, Curtis Jones is back in training but may not be rushed straight back into action, while Thiago Alcantara has suffered a setback in his recovery and won't be seen until after the international break. Wataru Endo struggled a little last week, and Klopp may consider Harvey Elliott or Stefan Bajcetic in the engine room.

Darwin Nunez could get the nod up front after last week's brace, while Mohamed Salah remains a Liverpool player at the time of writing.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Endo, Mac Allister; Salah, Nunez, Diaz

UNAVAILABLE: Van Dijk (Suspended), Konate (Injured), Thiago (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Jones (Fitness)

ASTON VILLA

Emiliano Martinez remains doubtful after missing the last couple of games, so Robin Olsen could well deputise in goal once again. Elsewhere, Alex Moreno is the only other player who may return to action before the international break.

Emery opted for a back three to good effect against Burnley last week, and is likely to go for the same set-up here.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Olsen; Konsa, Carlos, Torres; Cash, Kamara, Luiz, Digne; Diaby, McGinn; Watkins

UNAVAILABLE: Mings (Injured), Iroegbunam (Injured), Ramsey (Injured), Coutinho (Injured), Buendia (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Martinez (Injured), Moreno (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Liverpool completed a great escape against Newcastle last week but there is no doubt that they will miss the suspended Virgil van Dijk, who could see his ban extended following an FA charge for his reaction to the dismissal. This exciting Villa side will fancy their chances then, but with Liverpool's talent in the attacking areas, it is hard to imagine them not scoring themselves. With this in mind, both teams to score looks a reasonable market to back.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
