THE PREDICTION

An all-Brazilian final awaits in the Copa Libertadores final as reigning champions Palmeiras face off against 2019 champions Flamengo. Palmeiras needed extra time to see off Atletico Mineiro after two legs via the away goals rule, whilst Flamengo made light work of Barcelona. Renato Gaucho’s side enter this final in excellent form, having not lost in their last nine Brazilian Serie A fixtures, winning four of their last five in the process. Palmeiras in contrast, are totally out of form, losing three of their most recent four games. Whilst the form book goes out of the window in a final, Flamengo will be looking to start on the front foot and take advantage of a possible lack of confidence within the Palmeiras team. No doubt Copa Libertadores top scorer Gabriel Barbosa will have a huge part to play as he looks to impose himself upon the opposition defence.

As you would expect in such a big final, this may prove a tense affair and goals could well be at a premium with neither side taking any big risks whilst the scores are level. Backing under 2.5 goals over the course of 90 minutes has to be favoured regardless of who comes on top. In terms of an overall winner, the class of Flamengo going forward led by the ruthless ‘Gabigol’ is likely to wind up the decisive factor between these two sides and lead to Flamengo lifting their third Copa Libertadores trophy.
