THE LOWDOWN

STANDARD LIEGE

It has been a bizarre time for Standard Liege. They are a fallen giant of Belgian football but appeared to be getting back on track as this season went along with Carl Hoefkens finding a formula that worked following some impressive summer business but they have dramatically fallen off again in recent matches as they fall back down into the bottom-half.

Standard were hammered 6-0 by unconvincing defending champions Antwerp a couple of weeks ago and that means they have managed just four victories in their opening 14 matches of the season with one point collected in their last three games. Hoefkens remains in charge but he is coming under a little bit of pressure.

GENK

Under the management of Wouter Vrancken, Genk come into this one on the back of some good form but they are sitting ten points off Royale Union Saint-Gilloise at the top-of-the-table with that spot at the top being Genk’s overall aim for the campaign. They have been entertaining to watch, averaging two goals per game in their 14 Jupiler Pro League matches so far.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a comfortable and impressive 3-1 defeat of Oud-Heverlee Leuven in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago, prior to the November international break. Genk have managed three victories in their last four games with one defeat in their last 15 matches across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

STANDARD LIEGE

Standard Liege have a few injury and suspension concerns for this one with Marlon Fossey out injured and Zinho Vanheusden unavailable due to suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Henkinet; Dewaele, Ngoy, Bope, Laifis; Kawabe, Alzate, Hayden, Djenepo; Sowah, Kanga

UNAVAILABLE: Vanheusden (Suspended), Fossey (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Hautekiet (Injured)

GENK

There are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for Genk for this one so they can name an unchanged team for their trip to Liege.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Vandevoordt; Munoz, Sadick, McKenzie, Kayembe; Heynen, Galarza; Paintsil, El Khannouss, Bonsu Baah; Arokodare

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Depoitre (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

About a month ago, this one would have appeared a really stiff test for Genk but now they head to a Standard Liege that, despite a major improvement in personnel in their squad after a late transfer window burst, may well be drifting back to their mean. They will still be able to get at Genk but the visitors simply are not losing that much, if at all, at the moment, so a double chance bet in their favour would appear good value for this one.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – GENK TO WIN OR DRAW
